Since 1991, Sally Ross Designs has built one-of-a-kind bespoke projects that consider the architectural style of the house as well as the needs of today’s family. Our goal is always to spare our clients the cost, both in space and expense, of “overdoing it.” In our own brand of home economics, we instead aim for “just right.”
Our transformations of spaces from metropolitan New York to Colorado, Maine to North Carolina, have been featured in regional and national magazines.
How We Work

- We’re delighted to welcome you to our mercantile–to buy a cupboard, table, desk (new in 2013, in Montclair, New Jersey, and online)

Rather than the kitchen of the year, we look to build the kitchen for a lifetime—and that philosophy extends to every room in the house that we help our clients bring to full potential. Classic materials and quality craftsmanship—including our fitted and unfitted cupboards and furnishings that make any room more functional and liveable—will serve you longer than the fashions and finishes of the moment. Likewise, details that honor a home’s original architecture will outlast any new trend.
We encourage those we work with to look at how they really live, and how the space can better serve them. Do you need a formal dining room, or would that room serve better as library/tv den?
Sometimes a simple re-purposing of space is a better answer than an addition. Using the full available square footage to best advantage first is the best way to plan a design-renovation. Maybe that 1980’s family room addition is the best place for a real working kitchen, and the living room should be just that. A coatroom that also holds cellphone chargers and backpacks will free up space in the kitchen, and allow more room for what matters more: cooking and homework and catching up with one another at the end of the day.
